An image saved in the WebP (pronounced "Weppy") raster image format created by Google for web graphics is known as a WEBP file. Compared to normal JPEG compression, the WebP format significantly shrinks files while preserving the same or higher image quality.
Similar to the PNG format, it adds an alpha channel for transparency and supports both lossy and lossless compression.
Several image editors, including Image Magick (multiplatform) and XnViewMP,
can open a WEBP file (multiplatform). Additionally, the majority of popular web browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Google Chrome (multiplatform), support WEBP files (multiplatform).
